Rally against “revolving door” of PG courthouse planned

Some Prince George residents are coming together on the steps of the Courthouse this month to say they’ve had enough.

Sean Greco is the organizer of a rally that is aimed at bringing light to the criminal activity happening here in the Northern Capital.

“Downtown businesses and other businesses are constantly being hit by repeat offenders. Homeowners are being hit by repeat offenders. These guys are being arrested, getting a slap on the wrist, a fine, probation and they’re back out on the streets in an hour,” Greco told MyPGNow.

The subject of conversation is not new, just last week RCMP warned of a spike in commercial break and enters after they received 17 reports over an eight day period.

According to Corporal Craig Douglass, property crime has been up since last year and the RCMP understand the frustration that residents are feeling.

Greco said the rally is not directed at the RCMP, but rather Crown Counsel and judges, “To say, we’re tired of this. Sentence these people accordingly, get them the help they need.”

He said some people are of the opinion that rallies like this won’t do any good, to which he responds;

“Nothing will change if we don’t try.”

The rally begins at 10:00 am on August 28th at the Prince George Courthouse.
