Just over a month before BC Cultures Days spreads through Prince George.
BC Cultures Days will officially launch with a provincial kick-off event in Mission, BC on Sunday, Septemeber 22, however, events here in the north won’t get underway until the following weekend.
Prince George will be host to two events.
The first will be Dive into Dewey on Friday, September 27 from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Bob Harkins Branch, located at 888 Canada Games Way.
The highlighted event, which is being put on by BC Culture Days local ambassador Sebastian Nicholson, will be putting on his two-day event on September 27 and 28.
Nicholson will be presenting The Spores of Joy, as he tries to bridge the disconnect he believes is present in the City of Prince George when it comes to the relationship between residents.
“I was walking through the forest one day, and the point of inspiration for it was when I saw a bit of birch spore on a tree, and I just got the idea of putting those up everywhere in town,” Nicholson explained to MyPGNow. “The parallel that I’m drawing between us and the fungus is when you think about the fungi, they all live in units on different trees but its the same forest, whereas with us we all live in houses but in the same community, and in Prince George I feel like there’s a bit of a disconnect between the community and not a huge sense of ownership for everyone.”
Quesnel will also be hosting events for BC Culture Days.
An Indigenous artist shows will be put on September 27 and 28 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at West Park Mall.
Emily Carr will also showcase her Small Wonders on September 27 from 7:00 to 7:40 p.m. at the Chuck Mobley Theatre at Correlieu Secondary School.
Culture Days is designed to raise awareness, accessibility, participation, and engagement of Canadians in the arts and cultural life of their communities.
