BCHL:

The Prince George Spruce Kings are off until tomorrow (Friday) when they head to Merritt and play the Centennials in BCHL pre-season action.

The Spruce Kings defeated Merritt 5-3 on Tuesday before nearly 400 fans at the RMCA.

The regular-season begins for the defending BCHL champions Friday, September 6th when they host the Surrey Eagles.

PG Cougars:

The Prince George Cougars will play five WHL pre-season games, with none of them in the northern capital.

They start exhibition play on Friday, Sept. 6th against the Kamloops Blazers in Langley.

Tennis:

Canadian Bianca Andreescu, will meet Kirsten Flipkens of Belgium in the second round of the US Open at Flushing Meadows.

She is one of three Canadians on the court today (Thrusday).

On the men’s side, Vasek Pospisil takes on American Tannys Sandgren while Dennis Shapavalov plays Henri Laaksonen of Switzerland.

MLB:

Atlanta Braves 9 Toronto Blue Jays 4

The Jays are 54-81 with 27 games left while the NL East-leading Braves are 81-54.

Fastpitch:

The Big Guy Lake Kings are off to an 0-2 start at the Sr Men’s National fastpitch championships in Grande Prairie.

The Kings fell 5-4 on Wednesday afternoon to the Irma Tigers and dropped a 3-1 decision in the night cap against the host Pirates.

Big Guy Lake has two more games today against the Elmira Expos at 8:30 AM and the Galway Hitmen at 3:00 pm.

Canada West Men’s Soccer:

The UNBC Timberwolves host the Fraser Valley Cascades Friday night at 6:00 from Masich Place in their Canada West men’s soccer home opener.

The two teams also play Sunday afternoon at 1:00 in Prince George to complete the doubleheader.

The UNBC men are 1-1 while Fraser Valley is 0-2.

Prince George product Jared Young will be suiting for the Mesa Solar Sox in the MLB Arizona Fall League.

Young is wrapping up his season with the AA Tennessee Smokies where he is batting .236 with five home runs and 55 RBI’s in 118 games with the Chicago Cubs minor league affiliate.

CFL:

Week 12 in the CFL kicks off on Sunday with Winnipeg at Saskatchewan followed by Toronto at Hamilton and Edmonton at Calgary on Monday on Labour Day.

The BC Lions return to action on Friday, Sept. 6th (4:30 PM PT) at Montreal.

The 1-9 Lions are riding a six-game losing streak.
