Is Ride Sharing the answer in Prince George?

Uride, a company based out of Thunder Bay, Ontario, officially submitted their application to the Province of British Columbia as they look to expand.

With ride-sharing becoming legal in the province, Uride is the first to be looking at landing themselves in the Northern Capital. The company had initially launched in April of 2017.

Cody Ruberto, Founder and CEO of Uride, told MyPGNow says the company has already started recruiting drivers in Prince George for the service.

“In a lot of communities, especially small to mid-sized markets, there’s a major problem with transportation and we don’t have the same access to public transit options that you’ll have in downtown Toronto or Vancouver,” said Ruberto. “Usually, there are extreme wait times for taxis, and extremely high prices as well. There’s an opportunity to come in and solve a big problem for a lot of people.”

Roberto says from a driver’s perspective, it provides a great opportunity for people to earn an additional source of income.

Over the next two to three weeks, Uride is planning to determine their prices for the market before they officially set up shop. As for when they do begin operation, that will be dependent on whether they get the official licence from the provincial government, which is said to be potentially four to eight weeks following the submission of their application.

Ruberto added that anyone interested in becoming a driver and gaining their Class 4 licence, to head to the company’s website.

Ridesharing companies were able to submit applications in order to operate on BC Roads as of September 3rd.
