Jail time given to local man after theft from vehicle in PG

A 22-year-old Prince George man is in jail following a theft from a vehicle on Friday.

According to the RCMP, an officer saw a man wearing a uniform from a local business chasing the suspect on 2nd Avenue near Ottawa Street just after 2pm.

A foot chase ensued between the on-duty cop and the suspect, which saw the man discard a laptop bag and a tablet.

The culprit was later taken into custody near 2nd Avenue and Scotia Street and upon further investigation, the suspect opened an unlocked door and removed a laptop computer from a parked vehicle.

Jordy Martin Visser-Hayne pled guilty to theft under $5000 in court yesterday (Monday) and was sentenced to 45 days in jail plus one year of probation.

City of PG issues statement on encampment court case hearing

After a three-day hearing at the BC Supreme Court last week, the City of Prince George has concluded its application to close the encampment on Lower Patricia Boulevard (Moccasion Flats).  Lawyers for the City sought a final injunction authorizing the City to clear and remediate the encampment once units at the 3rd Avenue supportive housing site are offered to the current encampment occupants.
