WHL Pre-season: (in Dawson Creek)

Edmonton Oil Kings  6  Prince George Cougars  1

The Oil Kings scored four times on the power-play.

Rookie Ty Brennan took the loss in net, turning aside 40 of 46 shots.

Brennan is battling Isaiah DiLaura for the back-up goalie spot.

Filip Koffer scored the Cougars’ only goal, his first of the pre-season, on a breakaway in the second period.

Same two teams play again Saturday afternoon at 1:00 PT in Dawson Creek to conclude their pre-season.

The Cougars have been outscored 25-5 in their four exhibition games.

The Cats start their regular season on Friday, Sept. 20th when they host the Vancouver Giants.

The Cougars roster sits at 27, with 18 of those players veterans.

There are three goalies, nine defencemen and 15 forwards battling for a position on the team.

The PG Cougars have acquired prospect forward Davin Griffin from the Prince Albert Raiders in return for a conditional WHL Bantam Draft pick.

The 17-year-old Griffin played the last two seasons with the Saskatoon Contacts in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League.

 

PG Spruce Kings:

The (0-1-1) Prince George Spruce Kings host the (0-1) Victoria Grizzlies tonight in a rematch of the 2019 Coastal Conference final which saw PG sweep the series.

The Spruce Kings also entertain the (2-0) Penticton Vees Saturday.

NHL:

Winnipeg Jets defenceman Josh Morrissey has become a $50 million man.

Morrissey signed an 8-year extension with the Jets that carries a cap hit of $6.25 million per season.

 

Canada West Soccer:

The (2-3-1) UNBC Timberwolves host the (5-0) Mount Royal Cougars tonight at 7:00 in Canada West men’s soccer at Masich Place Stadium.

The (2-0) UNBC women’s soccer team visits the (2-0) Saskatchewan Huskies Saturday afternoon and the (1-1) Regina Cougars Sunday afternoon.

 

HS Football:  (UPDATE AT 3 PM)

The Prince George Spirit Bowl exhibition high school football game was featured today at Masich Place Stadium.

The College Heights Cougars whipped the PGSS Polars 40-0.

 

CFL:

The BC Lions will try to end a seven-game losing streak when they host the Ottawa RedBlacks tonight at 7:00 to begin week 14 of the CFL season.

The (1-10) Lions are 0-4 at home.

The (3-8) RedBlacks, who have former Lion Jonathon Jennings at QB, have lost four in a row.

It is the first of a home and home as the two teams also meet September 21st in Ottawa.

A couple of CFL games are slated for Saturday: Hamilton at Calgary (1 PM PT) followed by Montreal at Saskatchewan (4 PM).

NFL
: (Start of week two)

Tampa Bay Buccaneers  20  Carolina Panthers  14

The Panthers are 0-2 with both losses at home. The Bucs are 1-1.

There are 14 NFL games on Sunday, including Seattle at Pittsburgh and New Orleans at LA Rams.

The (57-90) Jays are 2-1 on a six-game homestand that continues tonight against the New York Yankees.

The (97-51) Yanks have the best record in the Majors.

Toronto has just 15 games left, nine at home and six on the road.
