Injured dog coined “The Blackwater Boxer” will need surgery says SPCA

10 days, a cage, and a community is what it took to get an injured dog to care.

“There was a boxer injured and lost out in the Blackwater Road, the SPCA finally trapped it,” said Alene Moscrip, who has taken it upon herself to set up an account at the Nechako Bottle Depot for anyone wanting to donate to the dog’s surgery.

According to posts on social media about the boxer, she looked to have a serious injury to the jaw, which some speculated might be a gunshot wound or from a bear attack.

“Someone had seen a dog with what they thought was a missing jaw, there was a whole big mission to catch her and two days ago she finally went into the trap we put out for her,” said SPCA Manager Alex Schare.

He said animal control helped out with a crate to find the boxer, which they put food in and checked three times a day.

“A lot of people were looking for the dog,” he said. “It’s fantastic, it’s so nice to see people band together and go out. Last week was really crappy weather, they go out in the rain and cold and try to get this animal help. People sacrificed their time and their comfort to go out and try to help this dog, it’s really heartwarming to see.”

Schare said the dog does need surgery, but he can’t say yet what happened to the boxer or how much it will cost.

“She’s pretty skinny, she’s a really sweet dog. They’re still checking her out and doing some tests on her,” he added that the Cruelty Investigations Department of the SPCA is looking into the case.

Anyone who would like to contribute to the boxer’s surgery can do so by donating to the SPCA directly or by donating bottles at the Nechako Bottle Depot under account #753, Blackwater Boxer.

“I also have a great big dump trailer so if anybody can’t get their bottles down by themselves they can either contact me on Facebook or on my phone,” said Moscrip.
