WestJet warns public of phishing email scam

WestJet sent out a warning to the public yesterday (Friday) of a new email scam using the WestJet Rewards name and branding likeness to get recipients to sign in or risk having their WestJet Rewards account deactivated.

“WestJet urges the public to be aware of unsolicited or spoofed emails from WestJet Rewards,” said Richard Bartrem, WestJet’s Vice President Marketing Communications. “The scammers are using the trusted WestJet namer to create alarm around the account deactivation in a fraudulent attempt to steal personal information.”

WestJet has confirmed that these are spoofed emails and are not being sent by WestJet, nor on the behalf of the airline company.

The RCMP Canadian Anti-Fraud unit has been contacted by the company, and they urge that anyone who may receive

such email to do so as well.

Prince George has approximately a dozen WestJet flights coming in and out of its airport each day.
