WHL: (PG Cougars)

Prince George Cougars  4  Kelowna Rockets  1

In his first WHL start, 16-year-old rookie Tyler Brennan stopped 26 of 27 shots to earn not only his but the Prince George Cougars’ first win of the season.

Filip Koffer scored a goal and two assists in front of the 2,049 fans at the CN Centre.

The (1-4-0-1) Cougars will hit the road Friday in Spokane to take on the Chiefs.

BCHL: (PG Spruce Kings)

Trail Smoke Eaters  7  Prince George Spruce Kings  4

The game was played Saturday at the BCHL Showcase in Penticton.

Prince George fell behind early and trailed 2-0 after the first period.

Corey Cunningham had a pair of goals to go along with an assist but just wasn’t enough to overcome the scoring bite of the Smoke Eaters.

The (4-5-2) Spruce Kings are 3rd in the Mainland Division, four points behind the (6-4) Chilliwack Chiefs and six back of the (7-2) Coquitlam Express.

Cariboo Cougars  8  Kootenay Ice  1

The (2-0-0-1) Major Midget Cariboo Cougars face the Kootenay Ice again today in Trail.

The Canucks are now 0-2.

CFL: (Week 17)

Montreal Alouettes  21  Calgary Stampeders  17

The Alouettes clinched a playoff spot for the first time since 2014 following their victory over the Stampeders on Saturday.

Quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. returned from a one-game suspension and went 18 for 29 passing for 206 yards and a rushing touchdown for the Alouettes (8-6).

Saskatchewan Roughriders  21  Winnipeg Blue Bombers  6

Shaq Evans scored the game’s only touchdown, but it was enough to propel the Roughriders to a triumph over the Blue Bombers on Saturday.

BC Lions  55  Toronto Argonauts  8

Bryan Burnham had three touchdowns and his BC Lions trounced the Toronto Argonauts at BC Place on Saturday.

The loss officially eliminates the Argos (2-12) from playoff contention, while keeping the Lions’ (5-10) faint hope for a post-season berth alive.

NFL: (Week 5)

There are 13 NFL games today, including Chicago against Oakland in London, England.

A feature afternoon game has Green Bay at Dallas with both teams 3-1.

Just three teams are unbeaten: New England and Kansas City at 4-0 & San Francisco at 3-0.

Six teams are still searching for a win.

Miami, Cincinnati, Denver and Washington are 0-4, the New York Jets are 0-3 while Arizona is 0-3-1.
