Man dead after long weekend house fire

A fire on Saturday night at a home on Chilako Avenue has left one man dead and three people in hospital.

Corporal Craig Douglass with the Prince George RCMP said they recieved a report of an explosion and subsequent fire at the residence around 9:15 p.m. and when they arrived, they found the house fully engulfed in flames.

Four adult males were transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the fire. It is believed that everyone made it out of the residence, however, one dog did not survive and a 40-year-old Prince George man died in the hospital as a result of his injuries.

The three others are expected to survive

The cause of the fire is under investigation and therefore the scene has been secured. Witnesses and video evidence indicate the occupants of the residence were handling large quantities of gasoline.  This morning, RCMP fire investigators will be on the scene with members of the RCMP’s Forensic Identification Section to gather evidence to help determine whether this incident was criminal in nature.

This residence is well known to police and has been the subject of police investigations in the past. Further updates will be provided as the investigation develops.
