Don Cherry:
At age 85, Don Cherry is out as a hockey commentator on Rogers Sportsnet.
The decision was made to fire Cherry after he made remarks on Saturday’s Coach’s Corner about immigrants not wearing poppies in advance of Remembrance Day.
“I live in Mississauga. Very few people wear the poppy. Downtown Toronto, forget it. Nobody wears the poppy. … Now you go to the small cities. You people … that come here, whatever it is — you love our way of life. You love our milk and honey. At least you can pay a couple bucks for a poppy or something like that. These guys paid for your way of life that you enjoy in Canada. These guys paid the biggest price for that,” Cherry said.
In an interview with the Toronto Sun after he was let go, Cherry would not take back what he said.
“I know what I said and I meant it. Everybody in Canada should wear a poppy to honour our fallen soldiers.”
He added to the newspaper: “To keep my job, I cannot be turned into a tamed robot.”

The Prince George Cougars have lost five in a row and nine of their last 10 after dropping a pair of home games against the Victoria Royals.
The Royals beat the Cougars 3-2 in a shootout and 2-1.
Victoria has won nine-straight regular-season games against Prince George.
