San Jose Sharks:

Another NHL head coach has been sacked.

The San Jose Sharks fired bench boss Peter DeBoer and replaced him on an interim basis with Sharks assistant and former Florida Panthers head coach Bob Boughner.

The (15-16-2) Sharks have lost five straight and are five points out of the final wild-card spot in the Western Conference.

DeBoer’s firing marks the fifth coaching change in the NHL this season and the third this month.

The Sharks host the New York Rangers tonight.


NHL:
(3 Wednesday games)

The (15-12-4) Vancouver Canucks are 2-2 on a five-game homestand that wraps up tonight
against the (19-11-1) Carolina Hurricanes.

It is one of a dozen games on the NHL menu.

Vancouver is 5th in the Pacific Division, three points behind Vegas and two ahead of San Jose.

Carolina is tied with Philadelphia for 3rd in the Metropolitan Division, a point ahead of Pittsburgh.

An all-Canadian match-up tonight in the NHL has Toronto at Calgary.

The Maple Leafs are 2-0 on a four-game road trip while the Flames are a perfect 6-0 since interim head coach Geoff Ward took over behind the bench.

Other games involving Canadian teams: Edmonton at Minnesota and Winnipeg at Detroit.

The Red Wings have lost 12 straight.

WHL: (PG Cougars)

The Prince George Cougars host the (15-9-2) Victoria Royals on Friday and Saturday.

The Cougars are home for the final time in 2019 on Saturday, in the Teddy Bear & Toque Toss game.

The Royals are 4-0 against the Cougars this season.

Victoria has won the last nine head-to-head games against Prince George.

The last time the Cougars beat the Royals was on December 2nd, 2018, which was the last Teddy Bear Toss game at CN Centre.

The (6-20-2-1) Cougars have lost five straight, scoring just seven goals over that stretch.

Prince George has a league-low 57 goals, which is just under two per game.

The Cougars have scored one or fewer goals in 10 of their 29 games (five times they have been shutout and five other times they have scored just once).

Prince George is 12 points behind the (12-12-2-1) Tri-City Americans for the last Western Conference wild-card spot.

BCHL: (PG Spruce Kings)

The Prince George Spruce Kings are 0-3 on a five-game homestand that continues Friday and Saturday against the BCHL-leading (28-5) Coquitlam Express.

Friday will be the Spruce Kings annual Drop The Gloves and Sock It To ‘Em Game!

The (11-18-2-3) Spruce Kings are last in the Mainland Division, four points behind the (13-16-2-3) Surrey Eagles and five points back of the (15-15-0-1-1) Langley Rivermen.

BC Major Midget League: (Cariboo Cougars)

The Cariboo Cougars are idle this weekend.

They visit the (7-14-1) South Island Royals Dec. 21st (6:30 p.m.) and 22nd (10:30 a.m.) in Saanich.

The (15-5-1-1) Major Midget Cougars are in third place in the 11-team BCMML, a point ahead of
the (15-6-0-1) Fraser Valley Thunderbirds.

NBA:

LA Clippers  112  Toronto Raptors  92

Kawhi Leonard was presented with his championship ring, and then scored a team-high 23 points to go with six rebounds and five assists.

It was Toronto’s third consecutive loss at home after going a franchise-record 9-0 to start the season.

The (16-8) Raptors host the (13-11) Brooklyn Nets Saturday (4:30 p.m. PT).

MLB:

Third baseman Anthony Rendon and the Los Angeles Angels have agreed on a seven-year contract worth a reported $245 million.

Rendon drove in a career-best 126 runs while helping the Washington Nationals capture the franchise’s first World Series championship this year.

The Toronto Blue Jays have added to their rotation by signing free-agent starting pitcher Tanner Roark to a 2-year contract worth $24 million.

The deal is pending a physical.

The 33-year-old Roark posted a 4.35 ERA in 31 starts spanning 165.1 innings for the Cincinnati Reds and Oakland Athletics in the 2019 season.

Judo:

Three athletes with the Hart Judo Academy have arrived in Marseille, France for an international competition.

Koen Heitman, Lochlan Young, and Kimiko Kamstra will be competing in Aix En Provence this weekend as part of Team BC and then participate in an international training camp in Marseille.

Team BC is joined by Team Quebec.

 

NFL: (Week 15)

Each NFL team has just three regular-season games left.

Week 15 kicks off tonight with the (5-8) New York Jets at the (11-2) Baltimore Ravens.

The Ravens, who lead the AFC, are riding a 9-game win streak.

Baltimore quarterback Lamar Jackson plans to play despite dealing with a quad injury.
