If you are traveling down the Old Cariboo Highway in Prince George keep an eye out for something special.

Local photographer Eric Seemann has installed a Christmas light display on his property but it’s not a new tradition.

The ritual started with the birth of the first of his 11 grandchildren 16 years ago.

He begins in October and works on it for four hours a day, four days a week.

He stated the display was something for his grandchildren to enjoy at first then attracted members of the community too.

“A lot of adults have started asking me in September and October when I am going to get started on putting it up and if I’m going to put it up, and if I’m adding any new pieces.”

Seemann said setting up the display takes a lot of work but it’s worth it.

“I start in the back, where I have the playhouse I built for the grandkids. I decorate that first into the gingerbread house. Then I put up all the mountings for the stuff on the roof and the pieces in the yard.” he explained.

After everything is situated, he secures the pieces with fishing line to protect them from the wind.

“I just absolutely love it. I like it for the grandkids. I have a Santa Claus in the front, and you see the youngest one hugging it.” he remarked.

“I saw a video online, I think it was on Hell Yeah Prince George. A gentleman had taped our scene, and you could hear the child in the background talking about all the pieces and what her favorites were. That’s what just keeps it going.”

In the future, Seemann thinks he might start a GoFundMe for the lights, and donate the earnings to hospice or the cancer clinic.
