Extreme cold warning for Prince George

Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for Prince George as of 4:44 am this morning (Sunday).

A period of ‘very cold’ windchill is expected for today (Sunday).

The organization is warning people to cover any exposed skin when traveling outside, because of a frostbite risk.

North winds combined with temperatures in the mid-minus-twenties is expected to create a wind chill of around -40.

“We’ve certainly locked ourselves into the grips of Old Man Winter here, with very cold temperatures building down from our friends in Alaska and the Yukon. “said Environment Canada Meteorologist Ross Macdonald.

“That cold air has made it’s way down to Northern and Central B.C., and in fact, it’s pushing southward right through the entire province.”

Arctic air will remain over the area for most of this week.
