In front of 900 fans at the Northern Sport Centre, The UNBC Timberwolves men’s basketball team defeated the 9th ranked Fraser Valley Cascades 69-57 to secure a playoff spot, the first in UNBC history since joining Canada West. The Timberwolves improved their record to 10-8 while the first place Cascades are 16-2.

–The UNBC women’s basketball team is 2-16 with two games left after falling to Fraser Valley 85-51. UNBC will conclude the regular season at UBCO Thursday and Friday.

–Cole Benson scored at 2:12 of overtime to give the Edmonton Oil Kings a come from behind 2-1 victory over the Prince George Cougars. Ty Edmonds was sharp in the P.G. net for the second consecutive night stopping 37 of 39 shots before 3,123 fans at CN Centre. The Cougars took three out of a possible four points from the Oil Kings in the doubleheader to move into a tie with Vancouver, just a point behind Kamloops for the third and final playoff spot in the BC Division. Kamloops lost 5-2 to Kelowna and Vancouver dropped a 3-0 decision in Seattle. The 21-31-2-1 Cougars begin a five game road trip Monday afternoon in Kelowna.

–The Prince George Spruce Kings won their third straight game by scoring three unanswered goals in the third to outscore the Coquitlam Express 7-5 in front of a hometown crowd of 972. The 25-20-0-5 Spruce Kings are two points behind 2nd place Langley and seven behind Mainland Division leading Coquitlam. They head on the road to play at Langley Thursday, Cowichan Friday and Victoria Saturday.

–In the BC Major Midget League; the first place Cariboo Cougars split a pair against the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds in Abbotsford. Cariboo took the opener 4-2 (Saturday) before Fraser Valley came back with a 7-6 triumph (Sunday). The Cougars are 28-7-1 while the 8th place Thunderbirds sit 13-17-4.

–College Heights beat Duchess Park in the final of both the Junior Boys and Junior Girls north central zone basketball championships to qualify for the Provincials.

–The Young brothers each earned a medal for the North Capital Judo Club at the Vancouver International Open & Youth Provincial Championships in Langley. Locklan Young picked up a silver while Asher and Maxwell Young ended up with bronze.
