Prince George resident Danielle Leblanc is healing from injuries after a trailer fire earlier this month took everything she owned, including the clothes on her back.
Leblanc and her boyfriend were sleeping at the time and woke up to smoke and ‘cracking’ sounds.
The fire caused her to lose her possessions, two of her three dogs, and her mother’s effects.
Due to the rural location and age of the trailer, the residence was unable to be insured.
“She told me her house had burnt down, she lost her two dogs, everything, that was really all I could get out of it at the time because it was so muffled. I could barely hear her she was just sobbing,” explained Danielle’s friend, Julia Young.
Young created a GoFundMe to help her friend get back on her feet and cover some of the costs with Leblanc’s recovery.
“She’s recovering really well actually, she’s been discharged from the hospital for two days now, she’s starting to get her bandages off and healing,” she said.
According to the hospital, Danielle is expected to recover fully within six months to a year.
Young and her coworker Nicholas Worden have also started a Facebook group with a list of what Danielle needs to ‘start-up’ again, including a list of household appliances and clothing sizes.
The fundraiser has raised a total of $1,505 dollars out of it’s $150,000 goal.
