PG’s Nico Myatovic ready to soar with the Seattle Thunderbirds

Nico Myatovic is set to take flight with the Seattle Thunderbirds.

The Prince George product and Cariboo Cougars forward signed on the dotted line today (Tuesday) with the WHL club.

The 15-year-old told MyPGNow.com it’s great to make the announcement in your hometown.

“I was hopeful they were going to get me out, which they did and the club has been great to me so far so I’m super excited.”

Myatovic adds getting a chance to skate at CN Centre with the Thunderbirds is surreal.

“Growing up watching the Cougars play in this rink is special and I just love watching hockey here and to be here with a WHL team is pretty special.”

In his first season in the BC Major Midget Hockey League with Cariboo, Myatovic has 12 points in 29 games.

Myatovic has set some lofty goals for the rest of the year with the Major Midget Cats along with what he would like to accomplish with Seattle come the fall.

“Going down to the main camp, my goal is to make the team, I am going to put in a lot of work this summer and finish off the rest of the season (with Cariboo) with a championship.”

He was selected by the Thunderbirds in the 6th round of the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft.

Myatovic explained the whole experience of getting drafted by Seattle is still fresh in his mind.

“I was so excited on draft day and especially excited when I saw Seattle pop up, it’s somewhere I think I can play and somewhere I can see myself being.”

Seattle takes on the PG Cougars tonight (Tue) and tomorrow (Wed) at 7 pm from CN Centre.

The T-Birds are ten points up on the Cougars for the final wild-card spot in the Western Conference.
