PG’s Exploration Place dinosaur collection showcased in TV series

Exploration Place is receiving national attention for its dinosaur collection, featured in the “Dino Trails” television series.

The series aims to showcase new fossil and dinosaur discoveries in Western Canada, specifically BC and Alberta.

“Folks are really excited to see Prince George featured, and particularly to see that there’s legitimate scientific work being done in northern BC,” said Exploration Place CEO, Tracy Calogheros.

Calogheros believes the series shines a light on a rich history in the region.

“The goal is to share the news that this kind of collection and these kinds of experts exist in our part of the world, not just to drive tourism traffic,” she said.

Exploration Place has a permanent paleontology exhibit that showcases full-size dinosaur models and fossils from the area that are over 70 million years old.

But, Calogheros explained Prince George is not a hotbed for traditional fossils.

“Most of what we got in this part of the world would be dinosaurs traveling through. When you think of the immediate area around Prince George, it was really an inland sea back in the day, but there was an awful lot of dinosaur traffic in the area. ”

The northern BC episode includes both the Exploration Place and the Six Peaks Dinosaur Track Site near Hudson’s Hope.

It also featured local paleontologists Dr. Rich McCrea and Dr. Lisa Buckley on site.

“Everyone is excited about dinosaurs, and you hear about them in school, to begin with. So, when you find out there were these giant creatures in the area where you are now taking your kids to the park, it always inspires the imagination!”
