PG Public Library, Spruce Kings, to host literacy skate event

The Prince George Spruce Kings, the PG Public Library, and Literacy Prince George are all teaming up to support literacy within the city.

A by-donation skating session will occur late Sunday afternoon at the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena (RMCA).

All proceeds from the event will be divided between the Public Library’s free ‘Homework Help’ program, and Literacy Prince George.

Amy Dhanjal, library Communications Coordinator celebrated the partnership with Literacy Prince George:

“They’re a natural partner of ours… they primarily look to connect different literacy programs.”

Dhanjal also discussed the importance of the Homework Help program:

“We recently had a grandmother write to us and let us know that her granddaughter who had been in the program for several years had recently won an award for ‘most improved student’, so it’s great to see that impact in our community,”

“Not everyone can afford tutoring, so this is a great option” she added.

Skates rentals will be available, however, helmets will be required for anyone under 18, with participants expected to bring their own.

The event will take place between 4:15 P.M. and 5:45 P.M. on Sunday, February 9th at RMCA.
