UNBC’s Interim President speaks on Dr. Weeks’ resignation

Following yesterday’s (Friday) sudden announcement of Dr. Daniel Weeks’ resignation at the end of UNBC’s “Reading Week” break, Dr. Geoffrey Payne has been declared UNBC’s interim president.

“I’m excited for the opportunity and I really appreciate the support from the board and their confidence that I can continue to lead the institution going forward,” Dr. Payne explained.

Dr. Payne also intends to mend relationships with UNBC faculty following last year’s Faculty Association strike, saying:

“My goal as the president is to build great relationships with all the people on the campus, including the faculty.”

When asked why his predecessor chose to step down, Payne replied: “I have no knowledge of why he made that decision,” before concluding that “it will be business as usual for students.”

The official announcement of Dr. Weeks’ resignation can be found online.
