Captain Maser scores in OT as Cougars end 5-game slide

The Prince George Cougars are back in the win column, but the team they are trying to catch earned a valuable point.

Captain Josh Maser scored his 24th goal of the season at 4:41 of overtime as the Cougars ended a 5-game losing streak.

Prince Geroge notched a 2-1 victory over the Seattle Thunderbirds before 3,064 fans in Kent, Washington.

Vladislav Mikhalchuk tallied on the power play and assisted on the winner.

Ryan Schoettler, who leads the team in assists, picked up a pair of helpers.

Taylor Gauthier, with 25 saves, was named the first star as Prince George outshot Seattle 32-26.

The (17-31-3-4) Cougars are 12 points behind the (23-28-4-3) Thunderbirds for the last WHL Western Conference wild-card spot.

Prince George has 13 games remaining (including six at home) and Seattle has 10 left (including five at home).

The Cougars host the (25-26-2-3) Kelowna Rockets Tuesday and Wednesday.
