Variety Children’s Charity Telethon raises funds for hope this weekend

Variety Children’s Charity and Global BC are teaming up for the Show of Hearts Telethon, this weekend.

The charity supports children with special needs and organizations who provide child services all over the province.

Global BC Weather & News Anchor Kate Gajdosik is one of the Telethon hosts.

She takes great pride in being involved, “To be a part of making a huge difference in the lives of these children, who struggle with special needs, so that they can achieve and celebrate their little victories,” she says.

Gajdosik says even if you only have five dollars to spare, it goes a long way. “The next person’s five dollars and the next person’s two dollars, it all compounds to make a difference in the lives of all of these kids,” she says. “The money that variety collects goes right back to the children.”

Gajdosik has a personal connection with Variety; Her two cousins lived with severe mental and physical disabilities. “Without the Variety Children’s Charity, [my aunt] couldn’t refit her van to make sure that my cousins’ two wheelchairs could fit inside,” Gajdosik says. “Their disabilities were severe, they never walked a step in their lives, they never spoke a word in their lives, but Variety was there for the 20 plus years that my cousins were alive.”

The telethon runs Saturday and Sunday on Global BC.

Gajdosik says Sheryl Crow will make an appearance, along with Juno award winner Helen Austin, and a surprise headliner.
