Northern BC Tourism Plaza showcases travel experiences

Northern Tourism is getting a lot of exposure during the Winter Games.

Down at the Games Plaza, the Northern BC Tourism wing has been officially opened to the public, with cedar-façade portables and a custom log entryway.

It was built by Pioneer Log Homes, the same people who helped bring the wooden cauldron to life.

General Manager Andre Chevigny (of TV’s “Timber Kings” fame) says it was built fairly quickly.

“We got our team together, we had pretty short notice,” he says. “The fellas from Northern British Columbia Tourism got a hold of us and Super, Natural British Columbia and Cariboo-Chilcotin Coast and all three got together and we pulled it off and built a beautiful archway for the games.”

Chevigny says the Games are great for business and supporting the North in general.

“We’re from the North as well, Williams Lake, it means a lot to us that the 2015 Canada Games are in Northern BC, that’s a great big deal,” he says. “We’re excited about it, we’re here to share our passion, and share our passion with the rest of the Northern British Columbians.”

Chevigny says these installations will stick around in the region after the games are gone.

“The cauldron is staying in Prince George, the fire pit is staying in Prince George, but this archway and Cariboo CRD are going back to Williams Lake,” he says.

The interactive area shows off travel experiences from around the region, featuring fishing, hiking, Kermode bear and trapper’s cabins.
