School District 57 launches engagement questionnaire on Kelly Road Secondary

Now is the chance to voice your opinion on the possible renaming of Kelly Road Secondary School as School District 57 launched it’s online questionnaire today (Friday).

The purpose of the forum is to hear from the public on how to best preserve the past and present once the new school opens in September.

Board Chair Tim Bennett told MyPGNow.com this has become a passionate issue for parents, students, and staff along with the Lheidli T’enneh.

“We’ve heard a lot of feedback over the last three weeks regarding the topic, we have heard a lot from our students with the desire to look at how we can incorporate our commitment to both Truth and Reconciliation and honour the history of Kelly Road. We’ve received great suggestions.”

Bennett also recognized the district has to rebuild trust within the Kelly Road community.

“We recognize that we have work as a district to rebuild trust within the Kelly Road community, and we hope that everyone will see this as an authentic process and that the board will receive recommendations and make a decision at our April 28th board meeting.”

Superintendent Anita Richardson was one of many who met with students and staff at the school and was happy to hear the level of feedback on the issue.

“I think for us what really rose to the forefront in conversations with students was the interest in learning more and the interest in more information and understanding when it comes to Truth and Reconciliation.”

The deadline for public engagement is April 17th.
