The YMCA of Northern BC’s is launching a new program, dubbed “essential child care”, which will begin operating in April as a replacement for traditional preschool and before and after school care.
The change comes as a direct response to COVID-19.
“Since the pandemic began, the YMCA has been committed to continuing to provide child care as an essential service to families across Northern BC” said Amanda Alexander, YMCA of Northern BC’s CEO.
To address the need of families who are continuing to work during this time, the YMCA will expand before and after school programs to offer full day care, while Early Years Child Care will continue.
In an official release, the YMCA reminds the public that Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry is encouraging parents who can care for their children to do so at home.
