Sport Ministers aim to grow recreation among Canadians

Ministers for Sport across Canada are using the Winter Games as a chance to get together to compare notes on growing recreation across the country.

Federal Sport Minister Bal Gosal says conversation was focused on how ministers at the federal and provincial levels can work together to promote physical activity for Canadians of all ages.

“Conversations were focused on how we can work together to promote and encourage sport participation and physical activity, for Canadians of all ages and abilities,” he says. “Not only during this, the year of sport, but years to come.”

“In particular, we committed to further discussions on proposals from the Canada Games Council for the Games 5150 Celebrations and Commemoration Project,” he says.

Gosal says work is still underway for the 2015 Pan-Am Games starting July 10th, where 10,000 athletes from over 40 countries will descend on Toronto.

“This will be the largest multi-sport event ever hosted in Canada and we are looking forward to welcoming that and celebrating our Canadian hospitality,” he says.
