The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George released a statement today (Wednesday) reminding the public of the importance of reducing the amount of trash produced, and only visiting landfills when necessary.
“We have seen a real shift in how people are using their local grocery stores. They are reducing the number of times they shop, limiting cash transactions and practicing social distancing for the safety of other customers, staff and themselves. We are asking people to adapt that same thinking when it comes to the landfill and transfer stations,” said Laura Zapotichny, Manager of Waste Diversion for the Regional District.
The Regional District saw 120 non-commercial vehicles come to the landfill each day throughout last month.
Winter hours will remain in effect for the Quinn Street Transfer Station in Prince George throughout the April, meaning the facility will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesdays.
Recycling depots have been subject to closures as a result of COVID-19 concerns, including the Prince George Return It Center.
Prince George residents are encouraged to consider using curbside collection services when possible, and consider if the things they are discarding require immediate disposal.
