Emily Dickson wins another medal at Otway

Burns Lake native and Prince George resident Emily Dickson(17) captured her second medal of the 2015 Canada Winter Games at Otway today.

After a bronze medal on Sunday in the 12.5k biathlon, Emily captured silver in the 7.5k.

“I had hoped, it was a goal to do well at the games and I knew that I could be a medal hopeful.” Emily said “It’s been awesome so far and such an experience. I’m excited, so happy right now.”

Emily credited the improvements at Otway as something that gave her “an extra push” in her training. Even though she was happy enough “to have her head in the clouds” after hearing the results she was looking forward to her next races.

“Just looking back at my own race, there were some things I was a little disappointed about. But it’s still a bit of a relief to take something so positive away from it.”

Three other Prince George athletes had strong appearances at Otway; Claire Lapointe(16) finished 12th and Bobby Kreitz(16) came in 20th.

Arthur Roots(21), who is competing in his second Canada Winter Games, was just 16 seconds off the podium in 4th place.

“It’s a little disappointing for sure.” Arthur said “I guess one more target on the range or maybe a bit more of a push on the last lap would have done it.”

Team BC Coach Glen Rupertus says he is very happy with his team,

“I knew the team could do it. I told everyone else but the team, where we would be today and they performed very well… The home town advantage has been a big part of the strategy for us”

All four athletes said they were happy they had a bit of time to check out the festivities, music and fireworks. Bobby Freitz was particularly happy with Allan Doyle’s performance.

They will be back in action at Otway tomorrow with the 12.5k male and 10k female pursuit. The team relay runs on Friday.
