Winter Games—Wednesday, February 18

Emily Dickson of Prince George captured her second medal in women’s biathlon at the Canada Winter Games. The 17-year-old Dickson, who grew up in Burns Lake, earned silver in the 7.5 km sprint. Earlier, Dickson took bronze in 12.5 km individual. Claire Lapointe of PG was 12th out of 40.

–In the men’s biathlon, Arthur Roots of P.G. just missed a medal with a fourth place finish out of 42 in the 10 km sprint. His teammate Bobby Kreitz ended up 20th.

–The BC men’s curling team (skipped by Tyler Tardi of Surrey) doubled Nova Scotia 8-4 to remain unbeaten at 4-0.

–The BC ringette team, that includes Sydney Irving of PG, lost 7-6 to Saskatchewan and 11-3 to Alberta to finish round robin play 1-3. BC will play Manitoba in the Quarter-finals.

–The BC wheelchair basketball team, that includes Avril Harris and Joel Ewart of Prince George, lost 76-37 to Saskatchewan. Harris hooped 10 points in the game as BC falls to 1-2.

–BC picked up a silver in artistic gymnastics (from Shallon Olsen of Vancouver) in all around female.

–BC earned bronze in men’s team air pistol target shooting.

–BC got silver (from Mark Robertson of North Vancouver) in alpine Skiing in the Giant Slalom Para Male.

–BC athletes finished 4th, 5th, 8th and 9th in female moguls and 6th and 7th in male moguls.

–In Archery, Emerie Watson of Quesnel finished 4th barely losing the bronze medal match to New Brunswick. Tony Proctor of PG lost in the quarter-finals. Mya Schouwenberg of PG lost in the re-curve female quarter-final.

–Following competition Tuesday, BC has 5 gold, 6 silver and 6 bronze for 17 medals, tied for third with Alberta. Quebec leads with 24 medals, including 10 gold while Ontario has 8 gold and 21 medals.
