2 new COVID-19 cases in Northern Health, 3 new deaths province-wide

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announced 44 new cases of COVID-19 in British Columbia for a total of 1,561 cases provincially.

Two of these cases are in Northern Health.

Three additional deaths were reported, for a province-wide total of 75.

However, 955 people have fully recovered, while 531 cases remain active.

131 people remain in hospital, while 59 are in critical care.

Cases continue to grow at the Mission correctional facility.

Dr. Henry stressed that hospitals are safe to visit, encouraging B.C. residents to contact 9-1-1 or visit emergency rooms if necessary.

“It is safe to go to the hospital, and there will be people there to help you,” echoed Provincial Minister of Health Adrian Dix.

The breakdown of cases by health region is as follows:

670 Vancouver Coastal (an increase of 13)
623 Fraser Health (an increase of 22)
92 Vancouver Island (an increase of 3)
146 Interior (an increase of 4)
30 Northern Health (an increase of 2)

Updated provincial modelling will be presented on Friday.

“It’s just our continuing effort to ensure that you see what we see,” said Dix.

“‘Normal’ is going to look quite different for some time,” said Dr. Henry.

“There have been no new long-term care outbreaks in the last day. The 21 affected long-term care and assisted-living facilities have a total of 265 cases of COVID-19,” Henry and Dix said in their joint statement, continuing: “one thing that we all have in common is the understanding that Elders and seniors hold and preserve our history and culture.”
