Eleven Prince George groups receive money through provincial grant program

The BC Government is investing just under 12 million dollars to support community-based crime prevention and remediation initiatives.

In total, 267 projects including 11 in Prince George will receive a one-time grant.

The initiatives will help anyone dealing with gender-based violence, Indigenous communities healing from intergenerational traumas and communities, and families dealing with gun and gang violence.

Among the local groups receiving money include Positive Living North, the Prince George New Hope Society, and the Prince George Sexual Assault Centre Society.

The list of Prince George organizations to receive a portion of funding include:

  • Positive Living North – Fire Pit Cultural Healing Project $29,921
  • Prince George New Hope Society – 2020 Empowerment Sessions $8,720
  • The Prince George Sexual Assault Society Centre – Sexually Exploited Youth Exiting Services $75,000
  • The Prince George Sexual Assault Society Centre – Come Inside – Phase 2 $30,000
  • YMCA of Northern BC – Learning Together $72,978
  • Carrier Sekani Family Services – First Nations Child and Youth Advocacy $105,000
  • Carrier Sekani Family Services – Sons of the Land $30,000
  • School District 57 Harwin Elementary School – Building Traditions Back to Our Families $23,630
  • School District 57 – All Nations Basketball $17,350
  • Nusdeh Yoh School – Aboriginal Choice School Summer Day Camp $17,100
  • Kwadacha Nation – Bringing Victims to the Forefront – Increasing Their Voice $30,000

Since 2011, the Crime Prevention and Remediation grant program has provided more than $49 million to help organizations throughout B.C. to further their crime prevention and remediation efforts.
