It is the 16th government-run store to open in the province, which also includes Quesnel, Campbell River, and Kamloops.

Liquor Distribution Branch Spokesperson, Viviana Zanocco spoke with MyPGNow.com.

“It’s our 16th government-run store in BC and people have asked why would we open during the middle of COVID? One of our goals is to limit the illicit market and we are proceeding with all store openings by following the advice of our Provincial Health Officer.”

Zanocco adds they are expected to expand their presence in the northern capital later this year.

“We’ll be opening a second store hopefully in the summer, it’s going to be located at the Westgate Shopping Plaza and we look forward to start serving customers there in mid to late July.”

Physical distancing measures will be enforced, and all common surfaces will be cleaned frequently.

Protective shields have also been installed at each checkout.

The new store will operate seven days a week.
