PG’s National Indigenous People’s Day Celebration Cancelled

Lheidli T’enneh Chief and Council have decided to cancel this year’s National Indigenous People’s Day (NIPD) celebration in Prince George.

The event was set to take place on June 21st at Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park.

PG’s NIPD celebration brings together indigenous people from various nations and communities in Central BC but is also appreciated by many non-indigenous people and organizations which work with the Lheidli T’enneh.

“Large gatherings of people are still not supported by public health officials. BC has done very well in slowing the spread of Covid-19 and it makes sense to continue with that strategy,” said Dayi Clay Poutney

However, the Lheidli T’enneh Chief and Council plan to host the event again in 2021.
