YXS experiences 96% passenger decline in April

The Prince George Airport remains eerily quiet as passenger numbers continue to fall.

In April of 2019, just under 43-thousand passengers went through YXS while the airport recorded only 19-hundred people coming through last month, that’s a decline of 96%.

President and CEO, Gordon Duke told MyPGNow.com they are working on a phased-in approach with all of its airline partners as we head into summer.

“We’re working with all of our airline partners to see how we can work together to get that consumer confidence in air travel to get it back up to where we are resuming somewhat normal operations.”

“For us as an airport, it’s tough times right now and we are looking forward to better times ahead.”

Starting in June, Air Canada and WestJet will be operating flights four days a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday) to Vancouver.

Come July, Central Mountain Air will be flying three days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) to Kamloops, Kelowna, Terrace/Kitimat, and Fort St. John.

However, Prince George was not part of Pacific Coastal Airline’s phase one relaunch plan but could be included in phase two.

Duke said the airport is keeping busy by doing a lot of maintenance and landscaping work to keep the airport in tip-top shape.
