Return of in-person court appearances in PG supported by the Province

The BC Government is working to increase the number of in-person court hearings across the province.

Prince George’s courthouse is among the six B.C. courthouses set to begin holding in-person hearings as of June 8th.

“Working with the judiciary, we are assessing courthouses to determine the best approach to protect the health of court users. Each courthouse is different, but this might mean measures such as marking floors to indicate distances in lines at registry, elevators, washrooms and inside courtrooms, and disinfecting courtrooms after use,” said David Eby, Attorney General.

Both courthouses and courtrooms province-wide are being assessed to ensure they meet the basic health and safety requirements as outlined by the provincial health officer and WorkSafeBC.

Rearranging furniture, adjusting occupancy limits, marking floors for directional movement, and establishing protocols for handling documents and evidence are among the steps being taken to ensure safety and sanitation.

Work is currently underway and within the next few weeks a limited number of courtrooms may be available throughout the province for in-person hearings.
