Prince George announces possible reopen dates for indoor facilities

Multiple indoor facilities across the city now have tentative reopening dates, and Prince George City Council will be hearing details at tomorrow’s (Monday) meeting.

The Aquatic Centre is scheduled to welcome back patrons on September 8th dependant on Phase Three of BC’s restart plan.

However, the Four Seasons Pool will remain closed until further notice, as swimming lessons and close contact sports will not be allowed until Phase Four.

The Kin 2 and 3 centres will hopefully return to operation in August, and the Kin 1 and CN Centres are scheduled for September.

In addition, the Prince George Conference and Civic Centre will also tentatively open in August.

Meanwhile, the Masich Place Stadium will remain closed until construction is complete and they have a safety plan in place.

Council will also be discussing cost-saving measures for local transit routes, as the city has seen a 60-70 per cent decrease in ridership.

There is an estimated loss of approximately $100,000/month during the fare suspension.

Ridership is not expected to increase until physical-distancing requirements begin to ease, and capacity is increased.

Summer transit service is proposed to continue through to the end of the year, with reduced service to UNBC.

Students will also have the chance to opt into the UPass.

BC Transit estimates that ridership will return to 50 per cent of normal by the end of the year, however, the city is facing a revenue loss of $940,000.

Members of the public will also now be able to attend public hearings by phone in addition to attending in person.
