HARTLEY’S SPORTS SHORTS: WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 12

In a nutshell:

NHL:

–The Vancouver Canucks play the defending champion St. Louis Blues tonight (Wed) at 7:30 in the opener of their best-of-7 Conference quarter-final. The game can be heard on Country 97 in Prince George.

–The Montreal Canadiens open their series against the Philadelphia Flyers tonight at 5:00.

–Patrice Bergeron scored at 1:12 of double overtime to give the Boston Bruins a 4-3 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes.

The game was originally scheduled for last night but was played today (Wednesday).

–After six hours, five overtimes and a combined 151 shots on goal, the Tampa Bay Lightning edged the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-2 in the 4th longest game in NHL history.  Brayden Point scored at 10 minutes and 27 seconds of the 5th overtime period.

–In other Tuesday action in the NHL: Calgary beat Dallas 3-2 and Vegas outscored Chicago 4-1.

NBA:

–The (51-19) Toronto Raptors play their second last game prior to playoffs when they tip-off against the Philadelphia 76’ers today (3:30 PM PT).

–Damian Lillard tied a career-high with 61 points, leading the Portland Trail Blazers to a 134-131 victory over the Dallas Mavericks. The Trail Blazers have moved into eighth place in the Western Conference.

MLB:

–The Toronto Blue Jays are 6-and-8 after a 5-4 win in 10 innings over the Miami Marlins. It was the first major league baseball game in Buffalo in more than 100 years.   The same teams meet again today (3:35 PT) in Buffalo.
