Northern Health has identified 17 cases of COVID-19 in the Fort Saint John area that are related to an event out of province.
Anyone who attended the It Is Time Canada gathering in Deadwood, Alberta, between July 30th and August 2nd, are asked to self-monitor for symptoms and self-isolate.
Contact tracing and testing have also identified some individuals may be at risk of secondary transmission.
“12 of the 17 are related to attendees at the event while the remainder of them are from what is believed to be secondary exposure so people who have had close contact with individuals who had attended the event,” said Eryn Collins, Northern Health Spokesperson.
NH also provided an update on the current community outbreak in Haida Gwaii where 25 of the 26 cases have since recovered.
Collins added that health officials aren’t ready to declare the event over.
“As they monitor that situation over the coming weeks, public health will declare the outbreak over when they are confident the chains of transmission have been stopped so we are keeping an eye out for any additional cases.”
In addition, 24 people are in self-isolation with active daily monitoring by public health.
