SD57 to ask province to rethink budget decisions

School District 57’s Board of Education is asking the government to rethink its recent budget.

At last night’s meeting, trustees agreed to send a letter to the Ministers of Education and Finance as well as the Premier asking them to rescind asking districts to cut costs.

The government wants districts across the province to cut $29 million this coming year and then $25 million the following year.

But Trustee Tim Bennett says that is not doable.

“Boards since 2001, have been finding ways to ensure a quality education for the students of school district,” says Bennett, “and having to make very difficult decisions.”

Bennett says its not clear yet how much specifically School District 57 will have to contribute to the government’s request.
