Update: Wildfire burning near Purden Lake updated to under control

Update:
The fire is now under control according to the Prince George Fire Centre.
A lightning-caused wildfire burning southeast of the city has been deemed ‘out of control’ by the Prince George Fire Centre. The fire, located just east of the Purden Lake Provincial Park, has reached 0.2 hectares in size and is burning partially up a nearby mountain.Rachelle Winsor with the PGFC says no structures are at risk due to the remote location.

“One initial attack crew is currently tending to the fire, along with a helicopter,” said Winsor, adding no additional resources are anticipated for the time being.

Due to the large amount of lightning in the region, crews are conducting air patrols in both the north and south of the PGFC.

This is the only active blaze in the region as of August 19.
