Left lane slowpokes on the fast track to court

“Slower traffic keep right.”

Drivers who are caught moving slow enough in the left lane to prevent traffic from getting through could be hit with harsh penalties if the Ministry of Transportation has its way.

Minister Todd Stone announced that he plans to table new legislation to give police more power to ticket drivers who aren’t using the left lane to pass.

While police already ticket drivers who hold up traffic in the left lane, Stone says most of those tickets are overturned in court.

Later this spring, the province will begin its enforcement to unclog the left lane, starting with a media awareness campaign.
