A local woman and her family were in for a shock when an envelope of money and an accompanying note was delivered anonymously to her door.

Leona Bergman, who runs ice cream express with her husband, was checking her mail last week when she found the letter, along with sixty-five dollars, but no return address.

“I opened it, and all of a sudden there is this note, and there’s this money, and I’m thinking ‘who is this from?'” explained Bergman.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Bergman has noticed an increase in random acts of kindness in Prince George, citing the ‘wine fairy’ and ‘coffee fairy’ groups on social media as examples.

“I’ve been blessed, to come home from work and have that at my door, but never have I received money from a random stranger.”

“It really just warmed our heart,” Bergman said. “But we were in shock to start with!”

Despite the excitement, Bergman admits they haven’t spent the money quite yet.

“We are waiting for my husband to get some time off so we can go and enjoy it. We haven’t had the chance yet, really, because we both work two jobs,” she explained.

“It was just sixty-five dollars, but it was (money) that someone took out of their own hardworking paycheck. It just means so much.”

She and her husband plan on paying the gesture forward, but that hasn’t stopped them from wondering who was behind the act.

“We’ve looked at the piece of paper, going ‘is that a clue?’ and ‘who is that lady in the corner?’ (…) We just can’t figure it out,” Bergman said.

“We’ve even had a magnifying glass, trying to see if we see any faded printing! We just can’t figure it out!”
