After reporting 294 cases in a three-day span, British Columbia has broken its record for active cases of COVID-19 at 1,107.
This includes 86 from Friday to Saturday, 107 from Saturday to Sunday and 101 from Sunday to Monday.
Northern Health has also reported 12 new infections, marking 152 in the region.
Across the province, BC has registered a total of 5,790 cases since the pandemic began.
There have been an additional four deaths since Friday, three of which were long term care residents, for 208 overall.
Of the active cases, 28 people are in hospital and ten in ICU.
“There have been no new community outbreaks, although there continue to be community exposure events. The Northern Health region has issued a community alert for the Prespatou region. Anyone who has attended events, services or gatherings in August are asked to monitor themselves for symptoms and contact health teams to get tested should any symptoms develop,” said Provincial Health Officer Doctor Bonnie Henry.
“The community exposure cluster in the Kelowna region has been declared over,” she added.
One new outbreak in the healthcare system was announced in the Fraser Health region.
Health officials are now responding to ten outbreaks in healthcare, including eight in long term care and two in acute care.
Two outbreaks were also declared over; the Dania Home outbreak in Fraser Health and the Holy Family outbreak in Vancouver Coastal.
“The increase in the number of new cases is a concern for all of us. We must to do our part and support public health teams to quickly manage new cases so we can contain the spread of the virus and ensure community spread remains low,” said Henry.
“After many months of restrictions, we all felt the need to reconnect with our family and friends this summer, but now we must slow down on our social interactions and prepare for the respiratory season ahead,” she added.
Meanwhile, 2,723 people continue to be under active public health monitoring from potential exposure to a known case of the virus.
The recovery rate is now at 76 per cent, after 4,466 people have been given a clean bill of health.
“We need everyone to pay attention and step back from the social interactions we have had this summer, so when the cooler weather and respiratory season arrives, we are ready for the challenge.”
