Day one of the Variety children’s charity radiothon saw a grand total of $18,916 raised for the cause.
The fundraising goal for this year is $40,000 compared to last year’s total of $60,000 because of the extra stress of Covid-19.
However, despite the pandemic, the organizers are happy with how the event is unfolding.
“Variety has really focused on helping families in communities,” said Cally Wesson, Variety CEO, saying the charity steps in to cover costs for things that might not normally be covered by insurance.
“We are here to take that burden from families.”
Wesson also recognizes that not every child needs the same supports.
The charity plans to surprise a child with an adaptive tricycle, and a continuous glucose monitor this year.
The radiothon for Prince George and Vanderhoof wraps up tomorrow evening.
