HARTLEY’S SPORT SHORTS: Wednesday, September 16th

NHL:

–Forward Jordan Eberle scored 12:30 into the second overtime to give the New York Islanders a 2-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Tampa leads the NHL Eastern Conference final series 3-2 with Game 6 Thursday night just after 5:00 (PT).

NBA:

–Canadian Jamal Murray hooped 40 points to help the Denver Nuggets advance to the Western Conference final for the first time in 11 years. The Nuggets beat the LA Clippers 104-89 in Game 7. Denver became the first team in NBA history to rally from a 3-1 series deficit twice in the same postseason. The Nuggets will play the LA Lakers starting Friday night just after 6:00 (PT).

–The Miami Heat outscored the Boston Celtics 117-114 in overtime in the opener of the NBA Eastern Conference final series. Game two is scheduled for Thursday just after 4:00 PM (PT).

–The Toronto Raptors have signed NBA coach of the year Nick Nurse to a multi-year contract extension. Terms were not announced by the team. Nurse had one year remaining on his contract with the Raptors.

MLB:

–The New York Yankees (riding a 6-game win streak) scored seven runs in the second inning and they went on to pound the Toronto Blue Jays 20-6. The (26-21) Jays slipped to third in the A.L. East, 1/2 a game behind the (27-21) Yanks. The two teams meet against tonight at Yankee Stadium.

NFL:

–The second week of the NFL season begins Thursday night with Cincinnati at Cleveland. Both the Bengals and the Browns are 0-1.

Low temperature record falls for Prince George

Prince George recorded its coldest temperature for October 13th this morning (Monday) according to Environment Canada. "Prince George Airport registered a low temperature of minus 9.5, which broke the record of minus 7.0, set in 1993," said Environment Canada Meteorologist Gary Dickinson. 

Conservation Officer Service investigating grizzly bear attack in McGregor Mountain area

The BC Conservation Officer Service (COS) says two hikers in the McGregor Mountain area north east of Prince George yesterday. (Sunday)According to the service, COS PAT Specialists are investigating.

Ice making process to start at two RDFFG rinks

The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George says the ice making process will start at a couple of rural rinks this week. At the start of this month, the Regional District announced ice-making would be indefinitely suspended at the Robson Valley Recreation Centre in McBride and the Canoe Valley Recreation Centre in Valemount.
