HARTLEY’S SPORT SHORTS: Sunday, September 20th

In a nutshell: as of 12:05 a.m. (All times PT) Sunday by Hartley Miller

NHL:

–Despite being outshot 36-20, including 22-2 in the third period, the Dallas Stars opened the Stanley Cup Final with a 4-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Anton Khudobin made 35 saves for his 13th win of the postseason. Game two will be played Monday night just after 5:00 (PT) at Rogers Place in Edmonton.

BCHL:

–The Prince George Spruce Kings will play eight BCHL pre-season games, with five of them against the Merritt Centennials. The Spruce Kings have their first exhibition on October 10th in Merritt. The only two home pre-season games for the Spruce Kings will be on October 25th and November 7th at the RMCA against Merritt.

NBA:

–The Boston Celtics outscored the Miami Heat 117-106 to cut the Heat lead to 2-1 in the NBA Eastern Conference finals. It was just the second loss in 12 playoff games for the Heat. The two teams get three days off before playing Game 4 Wednesday night at 5:30 (PT).

–The LA Lakers and Denver Nuggets are back on the court tonight (4:30 PT) in the NBA West finals. The Lakers won the opener in the best-of-7 series 126-114.

US Open Golf:

–At 5-under-205, Matthew Wolff carries a two-shot lead over Bryson DeChambeau into the fourth round of the 120th U.S. Open at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, New York. The only two Canadians to make the cut, Adam Hadwin (+9) and Taylor Pendrith (+10) are 14 and 15 shots off the pace respectively.

MLB:

–The Toronto Blue Jays have lost six straight following a 3-1 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies. The Jays are 26-26 with eight games left.  They play again this afternoon (12:05 PT) in Philadelphia.

NFL:

–There are 14 Sunday games in the NFL including the night matchup of New England at Seattle. Both the Patriots and Seahawks are 1-0.
