HARTLEY’S SPORT SHORTS: Wednesday, September 23rd

NHL:

–Game 3 of the Stanley Cup final will be played tonight (starting just after 5:00 PT) in Edmonton. The Tampa Bay Lightning and Dallas Stars are tied 1-1. Tampa is hoping to get captain Steven Stamkos back in the lineup at some point in this series. He has been sidelined with a lower-body injury. Jon Cooper of Prince George is the head coach of the Lightning.

NBA:

–Canadian Jamal Murray scored 28 points and added 12 assists and eight rebounds to help the Denver Nuggets to a 114-106 victory over the LA Lakers. Murray put the game away with a pair of late 3-pointers. The Lakers still lead the Western Conference final series 2-1 with Game four Thursday night (just after 6:00 PT).

–After a three-day break, the NBA East final resumes tonight (5:30 PT) with the Boston Celtics against the Miami Heat. Miami enjoys a 2-1 lead. Kelly Olynyk of Kamloops plays for Miami.

MLB:

–The Toronto Blue Jays have just five regular-season games left. The Jays are 28-27 after they took it on the chin losing 12-1 Tuesday to the New York Yankees. The same two teams play again tonight and Thursday (3:35 PT) in Buffalo. The Jays are likely headed for the 8th seed in the American League playoffs.

NFL:

–Hall of Fame running back Gale Sayers, who starred with the Chicago Bears in the 1960s has lost his battle with cancer. Sayers was 77.

–Week three of the NFL season starts Thursday night (5:20 kickoff) with the Miami Dolphins at the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Dolphins are one of 11 teams that have started the season 0-2. The Jags are 1-1.
