Time to “spring” ahead

Its that time of year again.

The time when we turn our clocks ahead an hour as Daylight Savings Time begins.

ICBC Senior Communications Specialist Leslie Dickson says there is a concern for road safety anytime there is a change in sleep patterns.

“Studies have long shown that time changes can have a dramatic effect on our regular sleep cycle, as it puts us out of sync with our circadian rhythm,” says Dickson, “so we know that the change in our sleep cycle is can cause unique dangers on the road and impact driving skills.”

Dickson recommends going to bed an hour early on Saturday and then going to bed at your regular time on Sunday.

She says studies have also shown that a third of drivers admit to feeling less alert once the time change happens.
