BC RCMP is reminding the public that October is ‘Drive Relative to Conditions’ month province-wide, advising drivers to be prepared for the changing driving conditions as winter approaches.
Police will be stopping drivers and checking vehicles to ensure motorists are safe and vehicles are properly equipped to deal with the chilly season.
Corporal Mike Halskov of BC RCMP Traffic Services noted, “winter is quickly approaching and we need to remind drivers that conditions will start to change relatively quickly with little warning.”
According to ICBC statistics, driving too fast for road conditions claims the lives of 38 people in BC a year, 10 of which are in the Northern Central region.
“There’s a lot of distance to cover between communities in the North,” added Halskov, “especially outside of Prince George where you are navigating through mountain passes.”
He warns people to be ahead of the conditions by making sure your vehicle is properly equipped with winter tread and keeping an emergency kit on hand.
