Councillor calls on feds to boost local economies

Municipal representatives met for the final time before the federal election this week to push what they feel is the greatest challenge facing Canada’s economy.

PG City councillor Garth Frizzell (pictured) sits on the board for the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and says the feds needs to start supporting local economies of cities like ours, to best strengthen the national economy.

He says plans for the provincial economy have long revolved around Northern BC, with forestry, mining, oil, and gas.

“The economy nationally really revolves around the work that’s being done in cities, in municipalities,” he says. “That’s why we’re issuing the call to federal parties.”

Frizzell says the most important thing for the FCM is to see election platforms reflect the interest of local governments.
